Tänav I video installations and tactile Liivalaia model
The 2021 curatorial exhibition was part of EAL's 100th anniversary celebrations and explored the concept of street space. "Street I" looked at the same theme of the future from the point of view of mobility. It was an insightful project, which aimed to ask both itself and the viewers and stakeholders as a whole what role architects have to play in shaping the Estonian street space of the 21st century.
We developed a series of video installations for the exhibition. These installations were crafted to enhance the visitor experience, offering immersive and visually captivating narratives that align with the exhibition’s overarching themes.
We 3D printed a tactile model of Liivalaia Street for the exhibition. Designed by the designers to resemble a playground, the model encouraged interaction, and children eagerly engaged with it, exploring the layout and imagining different scenarios within the space. This hands-on approach made the street model both educational and entertaining, with the aim of sparking thought-provoking interactions. Liivalaia Street, known for its car-centric urban space, was reimagined in this exhibition as a sandbox for kids.
The model encouraged younger visitors to engage with and reflect on urban design concepts in a playful yet meaningful way, transforming a typically vehicle-dominated environment into a space for creative exploration. The model was a huge success with kids, capturing their imagination and turning Liivalaia Street into an engaging playground.
